Tom Hill is Professor of Nutrition at Newcastle University, UK, where he has spent the past 15 years in research and teaching. In summer 2026, he will move to Maynooth University in Ireland to take up a Professorial role in nutrition, contributing to the development of nutrition as a new discipline there.

His research and teaching interests span four broad areas: nutrition in very-old age, micronutrients and health, food and health, and biofortification strategies, with a particular focus on healthy ageing and food-based strategies to improve nutritional health. His work has included major studies and collaborations in healthy ageing, vitamin D enrichment of eggs, the nutritional quality of vertically grown crops, and nutrition in relation to brain health and ageing.

He has a long standing association with The Nutrition Society, having served as Membership Secretary of the Irish Section from 2006 to 2011 and as local organiser of the Society’s 70th anniversary meeting, jointly hosted with the American Society for Nutrition in Cork in 2011. He has held editorial roles with key Nutrition Society journals and is one of the editors of the third edition of the societies'  Introduction to Human Nutrition third edition textbook.
