The Society is delighted to announce it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BAPEN. This brings the two organsiations into closer alignment and raises the prospect of valuable partnership projects.

Both BAPEN and the Nutrition Society have many goals, missions and objectives in common, although slightly different, and complementary, areas of focus.

BAPEN President Dr Trevor Smith commented: “I am delighted that we are formally linking our two organisations in this way. The Nutrition Society is a hugely respected organisation that has a long history and has contributed a vast amount to the scientific study of nutrition over many decades. I am sure this new relationship will make much sense to many of our members who value the work of both of our organisations. While we have always been natural allies, this shared commitment to working together will deliver projects of real value to anybody who cares about nutrition and believes it should be prioritised more within our health and care system. I am looking forward to working together with the team at The Nutrition Society as we move forward.”

Nutrition Society President, Professor Julie Lovegrove commented: “Signing the Memorandum of Understanding with BAPEN is an extremely important step forward and I am delighted that our two organisations are now collaborating so closely. I would like to thank those colleagues from both societies who facilitated this new relationship and I look forward to working together on joint ventures in the future”.

Over recent years, The Society and BAPEN have collaborated on Conferences, and continued to ensure regular communications between organisations. However, the new agreement means that the Society will be actively seeking partnership projects that are mutually beneficial, and working together with BAPEN to create maximum value in the field of nutritional science and care.

Nutrition Society Clinical/Medical Advisory Council Member, Dr Bernadette Moore commented: “This is a wonderful milestone for our two organisations that are so naturally allied. This last year in the context of COVID-19 has illustrated more than ever how much we rely on our BAPEN colleagues working in the NHS, as well as how essential it is that healthcare practitioners understand the role of nutrition in medicine and health. It is equally important that nutrition research is informed by clinical questions. This Memorandum of Understanding builds on our collaborative working over the last several years and formalises a natural partnership between the Nutrition Society and BAPEN. I look forward to our future activities together.”

Both BAPEN and The Nutrition Society recognise the value of partnership and believe this marks a really positive milestone and a natural step.
