The Nutrition Society has offered a number of Summer Studentships to undergraduates interested in a career in nutritional science.  After receiving a higher number of applications, the judges have now announced the winners who have been awarded funding to undertake research within their University during the Summer.  Congratulations to the following students -

  • Iain Campbell, University of Nottingham will undertake a research project entitled 'The aim of the overall study is to investigate associations between changes in body composition with alterations in meal patterns, food selection, resting metabolic rate (RMR) and gut peptide responses following RYGB.'

 

  • Jo Cossington, Oxford Brookes University will undertake a research project entitled 'Can a ketogenic diet enhance exercise performance in people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and down regulate fatiguing metabolite production?'

  • Rachel Hine, Plymouth University will undertake a research project entitled 'Sleep patterns and gestational weight gain using an existing data set.'

 

  • Estella Hung, King's College London will undertake a research project entitled 'The project aims to test human postprandial handling of industrially relevant interesterified fat compared to non-interesterified fat and a reference fat (vegetable oil) in a double-blind, 3-armed, randomised controlled trial.'

  • Jiyeon Jang, Coventry University will undertake a research project entitled 'The investigation of Heterocyclic amines (HCAs) content produced during stewing with beef, chicken and pork.'

  • Gijs Koolen, Wageningen University will undertake a research project entitled 'Application of metabolomics to validate intake of cruciferous vegetables and citrus fruits in a dietary intervention study.'

  • Sarah Nally, Ulster University will undertake a research project entitled 'Changes in Resting Metabolic Rate and Body Composition following Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery.'

  • Melanie O'Neill, St Marys University will undertake a research project entitled 'A pilot-study to determine the effect of community nutrition intervention ‘Man with a Pan EXTRA’ on the understanding of diet-related chronic disease and food choice in a group of older men.'

  • Chloe Patton, Ulster University will undertake a research project entitled 'An investigation into the effect of crude seaweed fibre consumption on postprandial glucose absorption and satiety in humans.'

  • Sam Riley, University of Nottingham will undertake a research project entitled 'Future Food: Reimaging entomophagy in response to food insecurity'

  • Harry Smith, University of Bath will undertake a research project entitled 'To investigate the role of dietary Capolac® (high in calcium), co-ingested with whey protein, on postprandial plasma gut hormone concentrations.'

  • Michelle Young, University of Roehampton will undertake a research project entitled 'The Nutritional Value of Children’s Meals in Restaurant Chains in the UK.'

  • Emili Ziem, Heriot-Watt University will undertake a research project entitled 'The effect of acute ingestion of dietary nitrate on fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO).'
