The Nutrition Society Cuthbertson Award has been awarded annually since 1990 as a tribute to Sir David Cuthbertson. 

It is awarded to scientists or clinicians at an early stage of their career for excellence in clinical nutrition and/or metabolism research providing an evidence base for clinical practice. 
 

The 2022 awardee is Dr Giovanna Muscogiuri, University of Naples, Italy.
 

Dr Giovanna Muscogiuri has been awarded the Cuthbertson Award 2022 for her research entitled Nutrition and metabolic diseases: also clock matters?.

Giovanna Muscogiuri is Assistant Professor at University of Naples “Federico II” and staff member at the UNESCO Chair Federico II University, Naples. She is a specialist in endocrinology and metabolic disease, having completed her education and training at the Catholic University of Rome. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship in metabolic diseases at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas, USA. Dr. Muscogiuri’s current research activities are centered on the study of circadian rhythm in endocrine and metabolic diseases. She carried out studies to investigate the role of chronotype ( a behavioural aspect of circadian rhythm alignment) and sleep disturbances in the pathogenesis of obesity, obesity-related comorbidities and endocrine diseases. She was awarded for her scientific achievements by “the Early Investigator Award of the Italian Endocrine Association (SIE)”, “the Early Investigator Award of the Endocrine Society”, “ the NIU Clinical Research Award of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO)”, “ Umberto Di Mario Award of the Italian Diabetes Society”, “ Top Cited Author of the European Journal of Endocrinology” and “ the Early Faculty Award of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN)”.

She has authored or co-authored over 200 publications including original studies and review articles ( H index 47; citations: 6381).

She is involved in the Editorial Activity of several metabolic and endocrine diseases. In particular she is Associate Editor of BMC-Endocrine Disorders and Frontiers in Endocrinology – Section Obesity and Current Obesity Reports. She is member of the Editorial Board of Nutrients, Endocrine Research, Hormones, Metabolism -  Clinical and Experimental- , International Journal of Obesity, Review in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders). She is also member of nutrition working group of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO).
