The Nutrition Society Cuthbertson Medal has been awarded annually since 1990 as a tribute to Sir David Cuthbertson. It is awarded to scientists at an early stage of their career for excellence in Clinical Nutrition and/or Metabolism research providing an evidence base for clinical practice. The Public Engagement Theme of the Nutrition Society will run a Public Engagement Meeting at the University of Surrey on 29 June 2009, from 19.00. The event 'Food intolerance: facts and fallacies' will compose of short talks given by experts, followed by a question and answer session. During the 19th International Congress on Nutrition, the ENLP, SEANLP and ANLP will, for the first time, present a joint Young Scientist Award to recognise the potential of young scientists to become global leaders in nutrition. The aim of this joint initiative is to encourage outstanding young researchers from all over the world and from all fields of nutrition to develop their careers in nutrition and to establish a global network of future nutrition leaders. The prestigious Nutrition Society Silver Medal has been awarded annually since 1991 for scientific excellence in the field of Nutrition. Dr Jeremy Spencer from the University of Reading has been announced as the Medal winner for 2009. Congratulations to Dr Spencer, who will present the Medal Lecture at the Nutrition Society Annual Summer Meeting on Wednesday 1 July 2009.
