Dr Anna Gryka-MacPhail
Dr Anna Gryka-MacPhail, BA, BSc (Hons), MEng works as a Policy Officer for Obesity Action Scotland – an independent advocacy group based in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow. Anna’s work involves managing, developing, and keeping up to date Obesity Action Scotland’s portfolio of evidence briefings, representing OAS on external advisory groups, liaising with other third sector organisations in Scotland, drafting responses to government consultations, contributing to the media and social media work of the organisation, co-ordinating/supporting public health campaigns and projects, and co-ordinating and supervising student placements and projects up to Masters level.
Anna studied nutrition at the University of Surrey, nutrition and dietetics at Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland, and undertook her PhD at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, where her research focused on obesity and type 2 diabetes. Her post-doctoral work at the University of Aberdeen focused on vitamin D and cardiovascular health and she was involved in education and training in the NHS Grampian. She has also worked as a freelance nutritionist helping people to improve their diet, lose weight, and prepare for sport events. Anna is currently studying for a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Edinburgh.
