There is a substantive evidence base around the roles of several nutrients and foods in the pathogenesis of several cancers, however challenges remain in a number of areas, including: achieving dietary change to reduce cancer risk; the molecular basis of nutriprevention; diet-chemotherapy interactions; the role of diet for patients living beyond cancer including in tertiary nutriprevention. The organisers are aware of a substantive amount of research across the UK in this space, but feel there is no adequate forum for targeted networking, nor for identifying gaps and unmet need.

The meeting goals are to draw together the UK nutrition and cancer research community to a potentially regularised meeting, to allow interaction between groups working at different scales, cancer sites, cancer stages; to allow early career researchers in the community a forum for presentation; in the case of this first meeting – to explore mechanisms for sustainability of the network.
The meeting is deliberately timed the day before the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) UK Therapeutic Cancer Prevention Network Group (UKTCPN) meeting to explore potential synergies between the chemopreventive and nutripreventive research communities.
