Food a fact of life

The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) and Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) have developed new draft guidelines for producers and users of school education resources about food as part of their joint 'Food - a fact of life' (FFL) programme.

The document sets out a series of voluntary guidelines which can be adopted as part of a good practice approach by those that produce and use education resources for schools about food throughout the UK. It is hoped that they will be used to further support the work of food education in schools, ensuring that children and young people use up-to-date, evidence-based and high-quality resources to support their learning about food. 

FFL is a comprehensive, progressive education programme which communicates up-to-date, evidence-based, consistent and accurate messages around ‘food’ to all those involved in education.

Careful consideration has been given to the curricula and qualifications in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and the Guidelines are based on the UK governments Core Competences for children and young people aged 5 to 16 years.

Feedback is being sought as part of the consultation process.
