The Nutrition Society organises a number of scientific conferences each year, as well as contributing to joint events with other organisations worldwide. Traditionally, the conferences held each year are the Spring Conference, the Irish Section Conference, the Summer Conference and the Winter Conference.
The annual Summer Conference is the largest of the Society’s conferences and takes place in July, attracting up to 400 delegates over 3 – 4 days (usually Monday – Thursday). In addition to conference-themed symposia, the conference also offers satellite sessions, original communications (a chance for authors to present research), a student career session and a vibrant evening networking programme, with the option of opportunities for training and workshops across or around the programme.
The Science Committee of the Nutrition Society is now seeking expressions of interest to host the 2021 Summer Conference, and to develop the programme with support of the Science Committee. The Science Committee would like potential hosts to suggest themes for this conference.
The bidding process
If you have an interest in hosting this conference, you should be able to provide or identify a venue in the UK or Ireland which can host and accommodate around 400 delegates. Whilst conferences have often been led and hosted by a University, the Scientific Committee are open to alternative conference venues, such as a convention centre. You should use the generic conference programme, as the basis for your indicative programme (symposia titles and suggested speakers for six symposia) and indicate the organising committee members, as well as the suggested theme of the conference. A short description of the likely range and cost of accommodation is helpful (the conference delegates will range from underfunded students to international plenary speakers).
If you have any queries, please contact the Society's Conference Coordinator. If you would like to discuss your proposal further or have any queries, a slot via phone can be scheduled for you with the Society's Conference Coordinator and the Society's Honorary Programme Officer at either noon on 16 April or anytime on 7 May. Contact us to arrange a time.
The decision process
Applications will be considered at the next Science Committee meeting on 22 May, and the successful bidders will then be co-opted to, and receive the support of, the Science Committee during the development and implementation of the conference.
